According to the most recent reports, the President of Haiti Jovenel Moise was assassinated in his home on 7th July 2021. Jovenel Moise was shot dead by unknown gangsters at around 1 am. On the other hand, his wife (First Lady Martine Moise) was also injured, however, she’s undergoing treatment in hospital.

Prime Minister Claude Joseph said that he is now the leader of the country. Below is what PM Claude Joseph had to say following the 2021 assassination of Haiti President Jovenel Moise at his home in Port-au-Prince.
“It’s a hateful, inhumane, and barbaric act. All measures are being taken to guarantee the continuity of the state and to protect the nation.”

“A group of unidentified individuals, some of them speaking Spanish, attacked the private residence of the president of the republic and thus fatally wounded the head of state,” he added.

Besides, there has been an increase in unrest in the country as police try to contain youthful gangsters who want to rule the streets.

Police and the Army had the security regulated however, gunshots could be heard even after the assault. The assassination ensued during a time of inferred political unrest in the country.

“The President was injured and succumbed to those injuries. All measures are being taken to guarantee the continuity of the state and to protect the nation.” Claude Joseph said in an interview with Radio Caraibes.

Last but not least, the late Jovenel Moise was elected the President of Haiti in the year 2017. Since his term began, Haiti has been facing an increase in poverty level as well as political unsteadiness.
